Gainsborough Court

New Build

The project involves taking forward into planning a project for a 2 bedroom single storey dwelling in Skipton. It called for an Architectural response to a brief for a bespoke modern residence through a considered exploration of options between client and Architect. The scope of our services was to develop the design, being sensitive to its surrounding whilst creating a unique high quality architectural solution, addressing the concerns raised in the previous application, prepared by another Architect.

The proposed dwelling will be situated in order to be screened from view until within the site and therefore have minimal impact upon its surroundings. To provide solar gain to the living spaces the blocks have been offset which also allows for the creation of external amenity spaces while reducing the mass of the building closest to the listed house. Glazed skylights will also be provided to the hallway to drop natural light into the centre of the floor plan.

The facade has been split vertically between a masonry ‘base’ with art stone detailing topped with a clerestory window which is over shaded by an aluminium frame containing louvres to control solar gain through the glazing. The external walling will be natural stone laid in random coursing, sourced locally.

Ashar blocks will be used for quoins around structural openings, a water table around the base of the building, padstones for structural members and as a sill for the clerestory windows. Black aluminium pressings in RAL 7021 will be used for the fascia’s, window frames and shade structures. The timber brise soleil within these frames will be Accoya coated with Woca Hazelnut oil for an additional layer of protection and to enhance the visual appeal of the screens. Permeable paving is proposed in charcoal/grey colour and the front door will be Accoya coated with Woca Hazelnut oil to match the brise soleil.

The house will be made up of:
- 2 x Bedrooms
- 2 x Bathrooms
- 1 x Utility Room
- Combined Kitchen/ Dining/ Living Space
- Gym
